Robert R. "Bob" Charles

Robert R. "Bob" Charles, 85, of Exeter, passed away Friday, Jan. 20, 2017, at his home.

He was born May 2, 1931, at Ridgley, the son of George M. and Elsie Mae (Thomas) Charles. On March 19, 1955, he was united in marriage to Carolyn Jones who survives.

Additional survivors include: one son, Dan Charles and his wife Kim of Bella Vista, Ark.; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and one step-great grandson.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers, Eugene, Lou Don and Marcell Charles and five sisters, June Armstrong, Doris Kimbrough, Barb Hobbs, Mary Ellen Robinson and O'Dean Brown.

He received his education at Independence School near Exeter. He served in the U.S. Army from Nov. 4, 1952, until Oct. 13, 1954, and was stationed at Fort Wainwright, Alaska. For several years, he resided in Kansas City where he worked for a dry wall contractor. In 1971, he moved to Exeter and worked at Charles Sinclair Service Station with his brother, Marcell. He then grew grapes near Exeter and continued dry wall contracting.

Funeral services were held Monday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Dr. Leland May and Pastor Jerry Yarnall conducted the services. Burial with military honors was at Maplewood Cemetery in Exeter.
