Lady Wildcats advance to semifinal

Shooting 75 percent from the field will lead to lots of victories, a truth the Cassville girls hoops team found out on Monday with a 71-39 win over Southwest in the opening round of the Galena Lady Bears Tournament.

"It was a team win," said Chris Shore, Cassville coach. "It was the best job shooting the ball we'd had all season, and it just wasn't layups. We were hitting perimeter shots."

Shore said the performance of Ashlynn Howe and Madry McCrackin stood out in the victory.

"Ashlynn hit three 3-pointers, and Madry has developed into a solid guard," Shore said. "Last week, we played well against Mt. Vernon, and that carried over into Monday's game."

The Lady Wildcats were led by Madi Stokes with 20 points. Howe recorded 15. McCrackin and Aurda Brooks chipped in 8 apiece.

The win moved the Lady Wildcats into Friday's semifinal bout with Hollister, who defeated Seymour. Tipoff is set for 7:15 p.m.
