HiSET tests being offered in Cassville

The Adult Education and Literacy Department of Crowder College in Cassville will offer High School Equivalency (HiSET) testing on Jan. 13, 2017. Applicants must register and pay online at HiSET is the alternative to a high school diploma. The test costs $95 and does not have to be paid all at once. The test consists of five sections that may be completed in a year's time.

Fairview giving free Christmas dinner

The city of Fairview will host a free Christmas Dinner at the Hammons Community Center on Sunday. Serving will begin at about noon. Turkey, ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, dressing, corn, hot rolls, cranberry salad, dessert, tea and coffee will be served. Meals will also be delivered to those who cannot attend in person. Dollar General hosting toy drive

The Cassville Dollar General store will be collecting toys at its store, located at 401 Main St., for children during regular business hours in December for the Christmas season.

Local church offering free Christmas dinner

Bethlehem Free Will Baptist Church will host a free Christmas Day Dinner at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. Everyone is welcome. The church is located 4 miles East of Longview, or 3 miles West of Rocky Comfort, at the junction of Highways 76 and JJ. For more information, people may call Melvin (Hap) Anders at 417-592-2967.

Property taxes due by Dec. 31

Barry County Collector Janice Varner said property taxes for the 2016 tax year are steadily coming into her office. Statements were mailed on Oct. 31, and Varner urges everyone that has not received a statement to contact her office at 417-847-2113. The office will be closed on Dec. 23 and Dec. 26 for the Christmas break, and since the Dec. 31 is on Saturday, the office will also be closed. Payment can be made online at, or mailed with a postmark of Dec. 31 or prior to that date.
