Exeter to face Hermitage at Walnut Grove

The Exeter girls basketball team has a busy schedule slated on the court this week.

On Tuesday, the 2-4 squad traveled to McAuley, results were not available at press time.

On Thursday, the Lady Tigers head to Sarcoxie before the open play in the 16-team Walnut Grove Holiday Classic that plays out over the next 13 days.

The Walnut Grove tournament has earned the reputation of being the best small-school holiday tournament in the state.

In the last six years, four state champions and nine state final four teams have played in the field.

Exeter enters the tournament at the No. 10 seed and plays No. 7 seed Hermitage at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Tournament play opens Saturday at 9 a.m., with games slated to begin every 90 minutes until the final tipoff at 7:30 p.m.

The opening day slate is as follows:

* No. 1 Walnut Grove vs. No. 16 Willard JV

* No. 8 Verona vs. No. 9 Stockton

* No. 4 Ash Grove vs. No. 13 Pleasant Hope

* No. 5 Pierce City vs. No. 12 Marionville

* No. 2 Hartville vs. No. 15 Niangua

* No. 7 Hermitage vs. Exeter

* No. 3 Fordland vs. No. 14 Hurley

* No. 6 Omaha (Ark.) vs. No. Morrisville

The second round games are set for Dec. 22.

The championship round is set for Dec. 30, with the third place game slated for 3 p.m. and the championship at 6 p.m.
