James R. Thomas
James R. Thomas, 90, Monett, Missouri, entered into rest on Nov. 19, 2016, at his home following an extended illness with his family by his side. Jim was born June 21, 1926 in Jenkins, Missouri, the son of George Q. and Zena E. (Ellis) Thomas.
He was a lifelong area resident and Jim had served his country in the U.S. Army. He worked for MoDot and retired in 1989.
He loved raising beef cattle, crappie fishing and was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. He was a member of the American Legion No. 91 in Monett and a member of the Church of Christ. Jim and Frances Drake were married May 29, 1955 in rural Monett, Missouri.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Cathy Marshall and husband, Jay of Purdy and Becky Green and husband, Sam of Monett; five grandchildren, Justin Green, Cody Green, Tyler Green, Chelsea Simpson and Tanner Marshall and two great grandchildren, Emma Green and Hudson Green. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by three siblings, Mary Elizabeth Suttles, Joe D. Thomas and Sue B. Clark.
Services will be Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2016, at 2 p.m. at the Buchanan Funeral Home in Monett, Don Deffenbaugh will officiate. Interment and military honors will follow in the Monett IOOF Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday prior to the service from 12:30 until service time. The casket will be closed at service time to remain closed.
