District football brackets released
Wildcats face East Newton in first round
The Missouri State High School Activities Association released its official football playoff brackets on Saturday night.
As expected, Reeds Spring hung on to the No. 1 seed, despite a Week 9 loss to Springfield Catholic. The Wolves host No. 8 seed Aurora.
Monett secured the No. 2 seed and will welcome Seneca to town.
Cassville held off a pesky Mt. Vernon team to solidify its footing as the No. 3 seed and will host No. 6 seed East Newton on Friday at 7 p.m. Mt. Vernon stayed at the No. 4 seed and hosts No. 5 seed Hollister.
Seneca, per the association's website, was originally seeded higher than East Newton. Despite scoring more points than the Patriots, the teams flipped seeds due to East Newton's head-to-head, 14-0 regular season victory.
The Monett-Seneca winner and the Cassville-East Newton winner will meet in the semifinal round. The Reeds Spring-Aurora victor and Mt. Vernon-Hollister winner clash in the other semifinal.
