Walter L. "Louie" Henke, Jr.
Walter L. "Louie" Henke, Jr., 91, of Muscatine, Iowa passed away on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016 at Lutheran Living. Funeral services will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Burial will be in Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation for Walter will be held on Monday, October 17, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Walter Louis Henke was born on July 12, 1925, in Fairport, Iowa, the son of Walter and Grace (Dose) Henke. On September 5, 1948, Walter was united in marriage to Phyllis Jean Evans at the Zion Lutheran Church in Muscatine. Walter drove the bus for the Muscatine, Clinton, Davenport and Burlington bus companies. He then became a firefighter for the City of Muscatine. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and the couples club of Zion Lutheran Church. In 1975, Walter and his wife moved to Cassville, Missouri, where they owned and operated the Stone House Gift Shop for 31 years. While in Cassville he drove the senior citizens bus for 20 years. He enjoyed wood working, riding motorcycles, trout fishing and was a skilled wind chime maker.
Walter will be deeply missed by his daughter, Jean Stumpf of Granger, IN; son, Daryl Henke of Muscatine; grandchildren Kevin and Kimberly of Granger, IN, Jennifer and Peter of Muscatine; five great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, John and Melody Evans of Muscatine and Ronald and Doris Evans of Muscatine; nephew, David and niece, Diane and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Daryl James Henke and Dean Ivan Henke.
