Wildcats bury Houn' Dawgs, 45-7
Phelps continues reign with 5 rushing scores
AURORA -- The Wildcats fonce again rolled to a victory Friday, with River Phelps once again leading the scoring charge in the 45-7 win.
Cassville was forced to punt on its first possession, but the offense was nearly unstoppable after that.
With 5:13 left in the opening frame, Cassville had to settle for a 33-yard field goal from River Phelps.
The senior was hungry for more points, and more points he delivered. After a 33-yard run down the left sideline, Phelps punched in the Wildcats' first touchdown from 5 yards out.
Aurora then scored on a 2-yard run, but Phelps extended the lead back to 2 scores with a 16-yard trot to paydirt.
From there, it was all Wildcats. A 49-yard run on Cassville's next possession, set up by a fumble recovery, put Phelps within striking distance again. Two plays after the long run, he scored from 7 yards out.
After recovering another fumble, the Wildcats were determined to put one more on the board before the break. On third and goal from the 1, Phelps extended the lead to 31-7 with only 11 seconds left.
Phelps' scoring streak continued in the third quarter, when after a Garrett Knight interception, Phelps found the end zone from 17 yards out.
The score was his fifth of the night and his 11th in the last two contests.
Anthony Tolbert got onto the score sheet in the final frame, punching in a 5-yard run to give the Wildcats a 45-7 lead and start the running clock with 8:06 left in the contest.
Cassville returns home Friday to face Mt. Vernon in the regular season finale.
