Mercy selling pink ribbons for breast cancer foundation
Campaign raises funds to help breast cancer patients, raises awareness
Every year, the Mercy Service Team at Mercy Cassville helps to raise funds and awareness for breast cancer via a month-long fundraising effort during October, which is breast cancer awareness month.
This year, pink ribbons will be available for sale again at the hospital from Oct. 1 through Oct. 31. The ribbons, which the team has made for the last four years, are $1 each. New this year will be $5 Sonic community cards, donated by Sonic.
Staff donates 100 percent of proceeds to the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks.
"They take the money into their foundation and distribute it throughout the Ozarks to help women pay for mammograms, rent, utilities, transportation, and all the things they can't afford while getting their treatment," said Stephanie Clymer, Mercy Supply Chain Tech and Mercy Service Team member.
Clymer said it feels good to be able to help out, and that it's important to spread awareness about breast cancer.
"I'm an advocate for breast cancer, too, because I lost my aunt," she said. "So, I want to help everyone in the community. It doesn't matter your age. Anyone can get breast cancer, and I feel like it's a very urgent health condition and awareness needs to be brought out into the community so that there is hope and health when those battling the disease need it, and so they know that they're not alone."
