Finishing the season strong key for Cassville

With seven games in seven days, Shawn Johnson, Cassville softball coach, knows that this is an important week for his Lady Wildcats team.

"I feel like we are on track to be the team I wanted us to be by the end of the regular season," Johnson said. "Our pitching and hitting have been consistent all season long. Our defense hasn't been terrible, but could always stand to be a little better."

On Friday, the Lady Wildcats begin play in the Springfield Tournament. Cassville opens play with West Plains, then faces Republic. On Saturday, Cassville returns to Springfield to face three more opponents that will be determined by Friday's results.

"This whole week is pivotal for our girls," Johnson said. "In practice, we are going to take it easy because of the game load, but we just need to relax on the field and take it one game at a time."

Johnson said this is the week he would like to see the team put everything together and be the team he knows that they have the potential to be.

"We started the week 6-3, and I feel like we match up well in five of our seven games," he said. "The girls are playing with a ton of confidence, and you never know what can happen."

The Lady Wildcats are still blistering the ball at the plate, hitting .388 as a team. Lauren Turner (.583) and Kaylee Reibert (.444) lead the way at the dish.

"I like where we are headed," Johnson said. "Now, we just have to show up and play hard."
