Shakin' in the Shell returns for 11th year
Music slated for Friday, festival events scheduled for Saturday
For the 11th consecutive year, Chamber Park in Shell Knob will be shakin' again, as the annual Shakin' in the Shell festival, along with the 27th annual Classic and Custom Car Show, is slated for Friday and Saturday.
The festivities kick off Friday evening with a free concert by Earl and Them. Gates open at 6 p.m., and Earl and Them's toe tappin' performance begins at 7 p.m. and goes until 10 p.m.
The shakin' continues Saturday with numerous activities for people of all ages including the Classic and Custom Car Show, registration for which begins at 7:30 a.m. Judging is at 10 a.m., and awards will be presented at 3 p.m. This year's Car Show is being organized by Don and Ola Erickson, and it will be professionally judged by former MAACC judges. This year's show also includes a Model Car Contest for ages 16 and under.
VFW Post No. 2203, off Highway 39 will be serving breakfast before the Shakin' Fest on Saturday from 7-10 a.m. with all you can eat pancakes with sausage and/or bacon, juice and coffee. Proceeds go to help local veterans.
This year's festival has an exciting variety of musical performances throughout. After the kick off by Earl and Them Friday evening, Saturday's musical entertainment continues with the annual Patriotic kick off at 10 a.m., followed by performances from the Blue Eye and Shell Knob School Bands. Saturday afternoon musical entertainment features Switch It Up from 3-5 p.m. and Crazy Mule, a bluegrass and comedy band, from 6-8 p.m.
The children's area is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, and again this year has a large variety of activities for children of all ages, including a climbing wall, laser tag, the bungee trampoline, spinning tea cups, swings, face painting, Ronzo the Clown and the annual treasure hunt in the sand pile.
A new addition this year is Kiwi, the skate boarding parrot. He will perform at various times throughout Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will be available for photos.
This year's Horseshoe throwing contest at the Shakin' in the Shell is from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and gives participants a chance to see how good they are at throwing against organizer and world class horseshoe pitcher, Pete Ploss.
This year's Event as always offers a number of food options, as well as numerous craft and business vendors.
