Barry County tax sale slated for Aug. 22

Janice Varner, Barry County collector, will host the annual Barry County land tax sale on Aug. 22 at 10 a.m. at the courthouse in Cassville. Anyone interested in purchasing delinquent properties at the land sale needs to come into the collector's office prior to 10 a.m. on the date of the sale to sign in and obtain a number. Any out-of-state resident desiring to buy land at the sale will need to appoint a Missouri resident as an agent. The agent forms needed for this appointment are available in the collector's office. Bidding will begin with the taxes and cost against the property as advertised and will be sold to the highest bidder. Copies of the parcels that will be auctioned are available online at barrycountycollector.com, or in the collector's office.

Kornerstone gearing up for 5K Fundraiser

Registration is now open for Kornerstone's 3rd annual 5K, to be held on Sept. 17 and benefit the Teen Parent program. Registration cost is $25 and includes a T-Shirt commemorating the event. The race will begin at 9 a.m. at the Cassville Aquatic Center and be timed by Ozark Racing Systems of Springfield. The male and female overall winners will receive trophies. Each age category will receive first-, second-, and third-place medals for male and female participants. All proceeds will go to provide advocacy and doula services for pregnant teens living in Barry County. Kornerstone Teen Parent program has helped over 230 teens and their babies since 2006 with the goal of educating teens on a healthy pregnancy and delivery of a full-term normal birth weight infant. Registrations to participate in the race can also be picked up at the following locations: Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce, Arvest Bank, Cassville YMCA, Monett YMCA, Shell Knob Chamber of Commerce and Fox Fitness in Shell Knob.

Mercy hosting 5K on Oct. 1

Mercy Hospital Cassville will be hosting a 5K Run/1 Mile Fun Walk on Oct. 1 in memory of Jennifer Dougherty. All proceeds will go toward nursing scholarships in Dougherty's memory for nursing students enrolled at Crowder College. Mercy will also being doing sponsorships for the event for $500 (large company logo), $250 (small logo) and $100 (printed name), which will be placed on the back of the race T-shirt. Community foundation accepting grant applications

The Cassville Community Foundation is accepting grant applications until Sept. 1. For an application, people may visit http://CFO.formstack.com/forms/cassville_cf_grant. Applications should be returned to the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce office.

Swap/Craft Meet slated in Seligman

The Seligman Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for its annual Swap/Craft Meet scheduled for Sept. 30 and Oct. 1. Anyone interested in setting up may call 417-662-3612. Booth space is available inside or outside, and the event will be held at the Seligman Chamber Event Center on Highway 37 north of Seligman. There will also be an auto and boat corral outside. For just $10 daily, those who set up will get tables provided for inside and food on site.
