44-year-old being held in Barry County jail on $50,000 bond

A Cape Fair man was arrested on Saturday after allegedly assaulting a man in Aurora and trying to steal his car.

Donald Hendershot, 44, of Cape Fair, is charged with second-degree assault and first-degree attempted tampering with a motor vehicle.

According to a probable cause statement filed by Sgt. Carl Cosper, with the Barry County Sheriff's Office, Hendershot allegedly struck the victim's head with a wooden-handled claw hammer, causing a cut and concussion, at a home on Farm Road 2010 in Aurora. The victim then came out of his residence and found Hendershot allegedly trying to steal his 1986 Ford.

Hendershot is being held in the Barry County jail on a $50,000 bond. He was arraigned Tuesday in the courtroom of Judge Robert Foulke. A new court date had not been set as of presstime.
