Annual event to feature food, games, displays

Several handmade quilts created by the ladies at St. John's Lutheran Church will be given away at the annual Stones Prairie Picnic, held at the church at 6 p.m. on Friday.

The big prize will be the "Eliza's Medallion" queen-sized quilt pieces by Nancy Kielblock. A "Peek-A-Bo Monkeys" baby quilt was pieced by Carolyn Schad. Both were hand quilted by the St. John's Quilters.

An afghan was also made by Margaret Rupp.

All three will be given away separately in a drawing held at the picnic. Chances will be available for $1 for six for $5.

The Lutheran Women's Missionary League bazaar will offer baked goods, craft items as well as tacked and quilted quilts for sale.

The picnic will offer a traditional menu of hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, ice cream and homemade desserts. There will also be a show of antique farm equipment, Jeeps and motorcycles. A wide range of games will be available for children and adults, plus live music.

In case of rain, the picnic will be held on Saturday.

The church is located west of Highway 37 on Farm Road 2060, north on Farm Road 1057, then west on Farm Road 2057, northwest of Purdy.
