Jammin' at Jolly Mill band scheduled

The Mark Chapman Band will headline this year's entertainment lineup at the fifth annual Jammin' at Jolly Mill Concert in the Country, starting at 6 p.m. on July 23, at Jolly Mill Park, located near Pierce City. The band performs a variety of country, southern rock, acoustic, Americana, Red Dirt, and indie musical styles. Special guests at this year's concert include Pierce City's Jamey Damrill, with alternative country music performances, and Neva Welters, performing on dulcimer. The event will conclude with a fireworks show at dark.

Front Porch Conversations meeting Thursday

On Thursday, Front Porch Conversations will host Dr. Daniel Seyer, seed coating research director with Monsanto, at 7 p.m. in the lower level of the Cassville Branch Library. Seyer is imminently qualified to address the pros and the cons of GMOs and is providing the group that rare opportunity to ask questions of a knowledgeable source. Front Porch Conversations is a joint effort of the Barry County Master Gardeners and the Friends of the Cassville Library to provide useful information for area gardeners. Collector's office preparing for tax sale

The office of Barry County Collector Janice Varner is preparing for the annual Barry County Real Estate Delinquent Tax Sale. Missouri law requires land purchased with three years of delinquent taxes sell on the fourth Monday of August each year. The first publication of the sale will appear in the Cassville Democrat on July 20, at which time copies will be made available at Varner's office. The tax sale listing may also be viewed at, and it will be updated as parcels are paid. Sherry Sears, Barry County assessor, will have a booklet for sale containing parcels offered in the land sale. To purchase a booklet, people may call Sears' office at 417-847-4589, or pick one up in Varner's office in the Barry County Courthouse.

Absentee voting continues through Aug. 1

Absentee voting for the Aug. 2 primary election will continue through Aug. 1, where voters must choose a party. If unable to vote in person, voters may send a written request to the office of: Gary Youngblood, 700 Main St. Suite 2, Cassville, MO, 65625 or fax to: 417-847-5311. A request must include: Date of election, name, physical address, mailing address, date of birth, last four digits of Social Security number, phone number, reason for voting absentee and a signature. Creative Arts of Shell Knob searching for art

Creative Arts of Shell Knob invites artists and non-artists of all ages to submit postcard size art regarding "Weather" to its gallery for display in August. Entries have been coming from all over the world for the show, and locals' art will be included. People may use any medium they wish, and the content should be family friendly.
