Local fire department gears up for barbecue, fireworks show

The Eagle Rock-Golden-Mano Fire Department is gearing up for another fireworks display and barbecue. The fireworks display this year is going to be on July 3. The day will start off with the department's barbecue, consisting of brisket and pulled pork sandwiches with all the trimmings, from 11 a.m. and to 7 p.m. The fireworks display will begin at dusk at the Highway 86 bridge over Table Rock Bridge. The launch site has been moved up the hill just below the Vikings Club. There will be no parking allowed in the Vikings parking lot this year, due to the new launch site. Regulations prohibit people to be that close to the launch site. The department is hoping attendees bring their friends and families to enjoy the show, which continues to get bigger and bigger each year, and this year is no exception. The display is funded solely on donations. People may donate by mail to Eagle Rock Fire, 30625 State Hwy. 86, Eagle Rock, MO, 65641. If anyone has any questions, they may contact Station One from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday thru Friday, at 417-271-3642.

Central Crossing Senior Center to host genealogy interest group

The Central Crossing Senior Center is supporting a genealogy interest group at the center, looking for people who have an interest in looking into their families' roots. If sufficient interest is shown, the idea is to have a group up and functioning by the end of this summer. So, for those who ever wondered where their family originated and perhaps what events might have triggered where they settled, this may be an opportunity to begin the research to find out. If there is sufficient interest in getting a genealogy group formed, Sharon Clute, who currently oversees the center's recreational library, will also oversee the genealogy group. Clute has experience in genealogical research and will be of invaluable assistance if such a group can be formed. Anyone interested may call Central Crossing Senior Center Administrator Sara Patterson at 417-858-6952 to find out more.
