William "Leon" Barnes

William "Leon" Barnes, 80, of Jenkins, passed away Saturday, June 4, 2016, in his home.

He was born Jan. 1, 1936, in Jenkins, the son of Jim and Dolly (Hilton) Barnes, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death were a brother, Charles Barnes and a sister, Joyce Barnes.

Survivors include: one son, Kent Barnes and his wife, Kelly, of Cassville; two daughters, Vickie Hembree and her husband, Mike, of Crane, and Kim Barnes of Springfield; one brother, J.L. Barnes of Aurora; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He grew up at Jenkins and received his education at Lone Elm School and Cassville High School. He was a self-employed beef cattle farmer. For several years, he was employed at Southwest Manufacturing in Aurora and for 34 years was a member of Carpenters Local #311 of Joplin. He had served on the Jenkins School Board a number of years and was the Jenkins Rural Fire Department Chief. Funeral services were Monday in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Pastor Doyle Russell conducted the services. Burial was at Clio Cemetery, Jenkins.
