Wilma Sue (Hawk) Blythe
Wilma Sue (Hawk) Blythe, 84, of Cassville, passed away on Monday, May 30, 2016, at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. She was born on Nov. 3, 1931, daughter of Jacob Herman and Wilma (Henderson) Hawk in Wheaton. On Oct. 20, 1949, she was united in marriage to Larry Hudson Blythe in Cassville, with the bride's grandfather, Rev. Calvin Henderson officiating.
She attended high school in Cassville, where she graduated in 1949 as Class Valedictorian. She was employed in her earlier years as secretary at Barry County Extension office, Barry County Library and Bookmobile, secretary to the superintendent at Cassville school district, and as a Civil Service secretary in Fort Leonard Wood.
She, along with her husband, built Cassville Bowl in 1961 where she served as league coordinator, and junior/adult league coach. She volunteered at Cassville Chamber of Commerce, Barry County Museum, and the First Baptist Church. She was a member of First Christian Church since 1948 where she baptized. She was active in church activities, taught Sunday school class and served as church office secretary. She joined First Baptist Church in Cassville in 2007 where she currently was attending.
Survivors include: one son, Jacob Blythe and his wife Terri, of Kansas City; two granddaughters; four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sally and one brother, Joe.
Memorials may be made to the Barry County Museum and entrusted to the White Funeral Home and Crematory, P.O. Box 890, Cassville, MO 65625.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Cassville, with Pastor James Weaver officiating; burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery in Cassville.
