Phelps, Fletcher take 2nd in Stockton Lake event

Cassville students Devin Phelps and Carter Fletcher took second place in the Teen Anglers bass tournament season finale Saturday at Stockton Lake.

The duo competed in a field of 166 boats with a five-fish limit

Phelps and Fletcher relied on 3/8-ounce wobble head jigs with Strike King Rage Craws and 1/8-ounce shaky heads with finesse worms to catch a 13.58-pound limit. They keyed on secondary points with chunk rock.

"We were sitting in about 15 feet and catching the fish about 5 to 10 feet," said Phelps, a junior who fished the Teen Anglers circuit last year.

The Cassville anglers practiced the previous day, but the action was slow, according to Fletcher.

"I didn't have many keepers," he said.

The tournament drew 321 high school anglers and 28 middle school competitors from 54 schools. The season finale also determined the circuit's Anglers of the Year race, which was won by the Ozark High School brother-and-sister team of Dalton and Keeley Combs.

The Teen Anglers 2016 Championship will be held June 18-19 at Table Rock Lake. For more details on the Teen Anglers circuit, visit www.teenanglers.net or e-mail teenanglers@lews.com.
