Sturgell named state finalist

Rebelle Sturgell, 14, of Cato, is a state finalist in the National Miss Missouri Pageant, to be held June 25 in Columbia. The pageant is open to girls 4 to 18 years of age in five divisions. Participants compete in events such as interviewing, formal wear, photogenic, modeling, spokesmodel and actress. Sturgell is participating in the Junior Teen division with other entrants from across the state. The event is an all-natural pageant, which focuses on poise, public speaking and self-confidence. Each year, the pageant awards $1.5 in cash, scholarships and other prizes, including a Ford Mustang and a trip to Disneyland. Sturgell's activities include hunting, fishing, baking and gardening. She is in middle school band, winter guard and does volunteer work. She is an active member of Bridgeway Assembly of God Church in Shell Knob. She is the daughter of Randal and Connie Sturgell, of Cato, granddaughter of Dorman Sturgell and the late Isabella Sturgell of Aurora, and the late Oliver and Doris Ash, of Purdy. Contributed photo
