Show-Me Bowl coming to Missouri State this year
University of Missouri awarded 2017 football state title games
The Class 1-6 Show-Me Bowl will move a little closer to home this year, as the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Board of Directors voted today on sites for the state football championships and Show-Me Showdown basketball championships.
The board awarded the 2016 Show-Me Bowl for Classes 1-6 to Plaster Stadium on the campus of Missouri State University in Springfield. The board also awarded the 2017 Show-Me Bowl for Classes 1-6 to Faurot Field on the campus of the University of Missouri in Columbia.
Contracts for the 8-man contests will be awarded once the association's staff has time to further evaluate the two proposals received from Cameron and Chillicothe. That vote should take place when the board meets in June.
The JQH Arena at Missouri State was awarded the Show-Me Showdown, beginning with the 2017-18 school year. The contract lays out a five-year agreement, which also uses the Hammons Student Center for the Thursday of the Class 1, 2 and 3 weekend.
"We are very excited about using a venue for our basketball championships for which we have received many positive comments," said MSHSAA Executive Directo Kerwin Urhahn. "We appreciate the work that the cities put into this bid process, and we have taken this process very seriously. We are especially humbled by the amount of community support the city of Springfield showed in putting together its bids. We have an obligation to our membership to find not only the best facilities to host our championships, but also the best support from the host site to serve our schools needs."
