Scouts take their cars to district races

Cub Scouts from Troop 76 look on with nervous anticipation as their derby cars are put in place to race last Saturday in Joplin at district races. The Pinewood Derby is a traditional scouting activity in which boys design and build a "race car" out of a block of pinewood. Cub Scouts gather around a table full of trophies hoping they'll win one at the district pinewood derby races, which were held last Saturday in Joplin. Scouts whose cars won in their respective dens and pack at the local races in Cassville in February went on to race in Joplin. Julia Kilmer reporter@cassville-democrat.com
