EF-1 damages trees northeast of Shell Knob

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down in Barry County late Wednesday night.

Survey teams from the NWS reported Thursday afternoon that at 11:08 p.m. Wednesday, a 200-yard-wide EF-1 tornado touched down one mile north northeast of Shell Knob near Stallion Bluff Road, tracking about two miles into Mark Twain National Forest.

"Due to the terrain, the survey team was unable to determine if the path extended any further to the northeast," the report said. "Damage was limited to uprooted and snapped trees.

Initial reports after the storm noted numerous trees down on Stallion Bluff Road, which coincided with a tornadic debris signature on radar.
