High school graduation slated for May 14

Dates have been set for the remainder of the school year in the Purdy school district.

At Superintendent Steven Chancellor's recommendation, the board set high school graduation for May 14. The second Saturday in May has historically been the district's commencement day.

With the threat of snow mostly passed, Chancellor recommended setting the final makeup days due to winter weather as a half-day on April 15, a full day on May 19 and a half-day on May 20, which will be the last day for classes.

Chancellor observed the district had scheduled a half-day of classes already on April 15, but the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) would not allow the district to increase that to a full day. The other options involved tinkering with March 25 weekend, disrupting plans for an Easter break, or continuing classes into the fourth week in May. May 20 was already scheduled as a half-day of classes.

Board members were satisfied with the selection and approved the schedule as proposed.
