'Depression and Older Adults' to be presented March 9

Doctor, therapist featured speakers at Mercy event

Senior Life Solutions, in conjunction with Mercy Hospital Cassville, will hold a seminar entitled "Depression and Older Adults" on March 9 from noon to 1 p.m.

The speaker will be Senior Life Solutions Program Medical Director Dr. Tamon Paige, M.D., and Program Therapist Valerie Yarmouth, MSW, LCSW.

Paige will be discussing the challenges of depression in adults age 55 and older. Discussion will include questions such as, what causes it, how big of a problem is it and what can be done about it?

Paige is a board-certified psychiatrist that grew up in Joplin. He graduated from the University of Kansas medical school and psychiatry residency. He was picked by 417 Magazine as the "Top Doc" in psychiatry for the Joplin area the last three years. He is department chair of Mercy Joplin behavioral health, and director of Senior Life Solutions at Mercy Cassville, an intensive outpatient program for seniors. He enjoys KU basketball, Arsenal soccer and cats.

The seminar will be held in Conference Room C. Everyone is invited to attend, and bring their lunch and eat during the seminar. A cafeteria across the hall also offers lunch options.

"The presentation is open to the public," said Program Director Michael Newton, RN, BSN. "Please share this with others who may be interested in learning more about this topic. Feel free to bring your lunch, refreshments will be provided."
