Purdy public works superintendent faces statutory sodomy charge
City terminates McIntire's employment, will search for new superintendent
The public works superintendent for the city of Purdy has been charged with first-degree statutory sodomy relating to alleged sexual incidents with a minor occurring over the past year.
Teddy McIntire, 56, of Purdy, was charged with the felony on Friday and is being held at the Barry County Jail on a $40,000 bond. Arraigned on Tuesday, McIntire has a bond reduction hearing scheduled for Friday at 9 a.m., and a disposition hearing on Tuesday at 8:30 a.m., both in the courtroom of Judge Robert Foulke.
Purdy Mayor Steve Roden said a special meeting was held Thursday, and the city council voted unanimously to terminate McIntire's employment with the city.
Roden said another city employee, Dave Gatewood, will serve as interim public works superintendent, and the council will further discuss hiring a replacement in March.
"We will advertise for employment, and the new person will have to have water, sewer and CDL licenses," Roden said. "We will go into that more at the next meeting
According to a probable cause statement filed by Det. Rob Evenson of the Barry County Sheriff's Office, McIntire allegedly admitted to multiple sexual encounters with a victim who was 13 at the time the incidents began.
During an interview at the Children's Center in Monett, the victim said the incidents had occurred five or six times during the past 12 months, including at the Purdy wastewater lagoons, as well as hotel rooms in Springfield and Illinois. The victim said the most recent incident occurred about a month ago.
Evenson said in his statement that he and Cassville Police Officer Danny Boyd interviewed McIntire at the Cassville Police Department on Feb. 12, intending to conduct a computer voice stress analyzer exam. Instead, after being read his Miranda rights and signing a waiver, according to Evenson, McIntire described a number of incidents between he and the victim, which included sexual contact, but not intercourse, between the two on multiple occasions.
