Playoff basketball returns to area

8 schools vie for district title at Southwest

The Class 2, District 12 boys basketball tournament opens Tuesday at Southwest High School.

The eight-team field features a total of five schools from Barry and Lawrence counties.

McAuley Catholic (15-4) earned the top overall seed and plays the No. 8 seed Bulldogs of Wheaton at 4:30 p.m.

No. 2 seed Pierce City (10-12) drew No. 7 seed Miller (3-20). The Eagles and Cardinals are slated for a 7:30 tip.

College Heights (11-11), the No. 4 seed, squares off against host and No. 5 seed Southwest (8-14) at 6 p.m.

The night cap belongs to No. 3 seed Purdy (14-8) and No. 6 seed Sarcoxie (4-19) at 9 p.m.

The McAuley-Wheaton winner and the College Heights-Southwest winner advance to the 6 p.m. semifinal on Feb. 25.

Winners of the Pierce City-Miller and Purdy-Sarcoxie games follow at 7:30 p.m.

The district championship is scheduled for Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m.
