Cassville gets 3 on academic All-State football team

Despite the football season ending last fall, the final gridiron awards were doled out last week with the announcement of the Academic All-State team.

Three Wildcats made the list in William Edmondson, Colton Dilbeck and Garrett Knight.

"I am extremely proud of these three guys," said Lance Parnell, Cassville football coach. "We stress the need for our players to put their academic studies first. These awards are as important as any other you can win in football."

Parnell said that the Academic All-State awards are also special due to the added pressure students face in managing their time between practices and study.

In order for players to be eligible for the Academic All-State team, they must be nominated by their head coach, must be a starter in 70 percent of the games and be a sophomore, junior or senior.

Additionally, the athletes must also meet two of the following three criteria:

* Score a 25 or higher on ACT or 1740 on the SAT

* 3.5 GPA or higher (GPA must be non weighted)

* Must rank in top 10 percent of their class

(GPA and class rank will be determined by the GPA and class rank at the start of that year).
