Rita JoAnn Rud
Rita JoAnn Rud, 67, of Viola, passed away Friday, Jan. 15, 2016, in her home.
She was born Jan. 2, 1949, in Burlington, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Nadine (Brookhart) Cousins. On March 17, 1994, in Rochester, N.H, she was united in marriage to Kim Lee Rud, who survives.
Additional survivors include: her mother, Nadine Cousins Greek and her husband, Don, of Shell Knob; one son, Larry Joe VanTrump, of Shell Knob; one brother, Lloyd Allen Cousins and his wife, Debbie, of Rochester, New Hampshire; one sister, Karen Christine Thurston, of Wolfeboro, N.H.; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Preceding her in death were her father and one brother, Richard Cousins.
She grew up and received her education in Iowa, graduating from New London High School. She then attended cosmetology school in Burlington, Iowa. In 2006, she moved to Viola to make her home and worked as assistant cook at the Shell Knob Senior Center. She had owned and operated the Ice Cream Shop in Holiday Island. She was a member of Viola Southern Baptist Church. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Viola Southern Baptist Church, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Pastor Tom Taylor will conduct the services.
