John Thomas "Tom" Laney
John Thomas "Tom" Laney, 67, of Exeter, passed away Jan. 3, 2016.
He was born Feb. 10, 1948, in Washburn, the son of William and Fern (Shields) Laney. On May 27, 1970, he was united in marriage to Connie Miller and to this union Tommy and Crystal were born. On Aug. 12, 2000, he married Mardell (Aultman) Holenda, who survives.
Additional survivors include: his son, Tommy Laney and his wife, Pam, of Rocky Comfort; his daughter, Crystal Young and her husband, Nick, of Wheaton; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; step-children, Missy Hurley, of Claremore, Okla., Vince Holenda and his wife, Carie, of Washburn, Jena Smith and her husband, John, of Cassville, and Jodi Ludwig, of Humboldt, Iowa; brothers and sisters, Charles Laney of Cassville, Lorene Dotson, of Purdy, Donna Smith and her husband, Donnie, of Washburn, Dortha Woolaway, of Wheaton, Dayton Laney, of Washburn, Jerry Laney and his wife, Betty, of McDowell, and Joe Laney and his wife, Kathy of Pioneer.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Elizabeth Ellison.
He graduated from Southwest High School in 1966. On July 27, 1967, he was drafted in the U.S. Army to serve in Vietnam. He received a purple heart due to injuries received in the war.
Funeral services with military honors were held at Jan. 6 in Fohn Funeral Home, Cassville. Rev. Billy Joe Gentry conducted the services.
