Area teams head to Southwest Holiday Tournament

The second annual girls Southwest Holiday Tournament tips off on Saturday with Pea Ridge (Ark.) and Omaha (Ark.) battling at 11 a.m.

The second year of the tournament features a new local team in Cassville, which had been in the Berryville (Ark.) Tournament the last three seasons.

"We wanted to get closer to home," said Chris Shore, Cassville coach. "We want our kids to have more of a break. It seemed like those trips to Berryville ended up killing the whole day.

"Plus, with us only playing 15 minutes down the road, more of our parents and fans will have a chance to come and watch our team play."

Cassville entertains Galena in the 12:30 p.m. game on Saturday, followed by Southwest and Wheaton.

The tournament continues on Monday and concludes on Tuesday.
