The 33rd annual Southwest Holiday Tournament tips off on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. with Pea Ridge (Ark.) and Exeter.

In recent years, the tournament has featured teams from Arkansas and Missouri. The eight-team field reflects this tradition again this season, with Pea Ridge and Gentry rolling in from the Natural State.

"I think we have a balanced tournament this season," said Kenny Ferguson, Southwest athletic director. "I don't see a runaway favorite in this field. I think it will be a great tournament for our community."

Ferguson said the tournament's longevity is a testament to the community's support.

"The area has really embraced this tournament and kept it going," he said. "We've been around long enough that we now have players in the tournament field whose fathers also played in the tournament."

First-round games on Saturday begin with Pea Ridge and Exeter. Southwest versus Cassville will follow, then Forsyth will take on Wheaton, and play concludes with Gentry and Galena.

The tournament continues on Monday with the first-round losers playing at 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The first-round winners will meet at 6:30 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The seventh-place game is slated for 11 a.m. on Tuesday, with the consolation final at 2 p.m. The third place game is set for 5 p.m., with the championship at 8 p.m.
