Children shop with cops

Seligman Officer Joe Arnold picks up toys to check out from a cartful that Kaylee Carnes of Seligman picked out with her mom through the Shop with a Cop program at the Cassville Walmart Super Center Sunday. Through Walmart grants at the Cassville and Seligman stores, and business and community donations, City Police Chief Terry Burgess raised $9,600 to purchase Christmas presents for Seligman children who might not otherwise receive Christmas presents. With the money that was raised, Burgess said 35 participants were able to spend $300 each in-store, and if shopping online, $225. Participants were also treated to lunch at Subway and provided a new winter coat if needed. Walmart managers helped facilitate the event and set aside registers exclusively for the toy purchases. Including Burgess, four Seligman officers spent the afternoon taking turns shopping with children as they came in. The amount raised was over double what was raised last year.
