2 injured in Hwy. 37 wreck

Pedestrian struck by rolling fire tanker after initial wreck

A Seligman man and two Verona residents were injured Wednesday in a wreck at 5:20 p.m. on Highway 37, two miles south of Monett.

According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, Devin Fisher, 36, of Verona, was driving a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 southbound on Highway 37. Her vehicle was stopped to make a left turn and was struck from behind by a 1997 Ford Escort, being driven by Jerod Black, 19, of Seligman, was driving.

Black suffered serious injuries and was transported to Cox South Hospital in Springfield.

Fisher suffered moderate injuries, and a passenger in her vehicle, Gunnar Fisher, 11, of Verona, suffered minor injuries. Both were transported to Cox Monett Hospital.

Black was wearing a safety device, while Devin Fisher and Gunnar Fisher were not. The Dodge suffered extensive damage, and the Ford was totaled.

Ten minutes after the initial wreck, a 2003 Ford F550 Fire Tanker, belonging to the Purdy Fire District, was not fully placed in park and rolled forward, striking pedestrian Zona Williams, 43, of Monett, before rolling into the Escort. Black was still in the Escort at the time of the incident, but did not sustain additional injuries.

Williams suffered moderate injuries and was transported to Cox Monett Hospital.
