Fred Gutherie Cooper
Fred Gutherie Cooper, 96, of Golden, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2015, in his home.
He was born Jan. 18, 1919, in Etowah, Tenn., the son of Lee Taylor and Mary Elzie (Shelton) Cooper. On March 30, 1940, in Colorado Springs, Colo., he was united in marriage to Agnes E. Higgins, who preceded him in death on Dec. 17, 2010. Fred's family moved to Golden, when he was a child. At the age of 18 he moved to Colorado and worked for the railroad. He then joined the U.S. Army, serving during World War II. After the war he returned to Colorado and in 1947 moved back to Golden, where he farmed and later worked for the federal government as a meat and poultry inspector. He was one of the people who helped build Holy Family Catholic Church in Shell Knob, where he was a member and a council member. He was a charter member of VFW in Shell Knob and a lifetime member of the DAV.
Funeral services were held Friday in Holy Family Catholic Church, Shell Knob, under direction of Fohn Funeral Home, Shell Knob. Burial with military honors was at Viney Creek Cemetery, Golden.
