Senior center cook wins salsa contest

Wednesday, November 4, 2015
Becky McKnight, of Washburn, who has been cooking meals at the Cassville Senior Center for five years and brings 30 years of cooking experience to the center, watches over a pot at the center. McKnight used her expertise while representing the center to win first-place at the Chili and Salsa Cook-off in Cassville. In exchange, McKnight won $150. She wouldn't give away any of the secret ingredients for her winning salsa, but did say she likes to use fresh herbs in her cooking, like basil, cilantro and thyme, and that her winning salsa is more of a true Hispanic version. She said she would probably use the prize money for birthday presents or Christmas. Julia Kilmer reporter@cassville-democrat.com
