Lady Wildcats softball earns No. 5 seed

Cassville gears up for district tourney action

The Cassville softball team will have some work to do if it wants to win a district title this season.

The Lady Wildcats, 11-12, earned the No. 5 seed in the Class 3, District 12 tournament. Monett will host the event at North Park for the fifth consecutive year.

Seneca (13-10) is the No. 1 seed, with Carl Junction (12-10) claiming the No. 2 spot. Monett (14-11) was slotted as the No. 3 seed. East Newton (13-7) is the No. 4 seed. Cassville (10-12) took the No. 5 seed, and Aurora (2-14) fell to the No. 6 seed.

The Lady Indians and Lady Bulldogs earned first round byes and await quarterfinal winners in the semifinal round.

East Newton and Cassville open tournament play at 4 p.m. today (Wednesday), followed by Monett and Aurora.

The Lady Patriots and Lady Wildcats winner plays top-seed Seneca at 4 p.m. Thursday, with the Lady Cubs and Lady Houn' Dawgs winner to play No. 2 Carl Junction immediately following.

The championship is scheduled for Friday at 4 p.m.
