Cassville heading into home stretch of season

The Cassville volleyball team, under the direction of first-year coach Nyla Walnofer, heads into the pivotal stretch of their season's schedule this week with two conference games against East Newton and Carl Junction.

All six games remaining on the Lady Wildcats' agenda are conference foes, with each game potentially determining the conference champion.

Cassville picked up a pair of victories last week, with the second coming on Thursday against rival Monett.

The Lady Wildcats, whose season has been an up and down for most of the year, easily rolled past Monett in straight sets, 25-13 and 25-12, to claim their fourth win of the season versus five losses. Monett fell to 0-17.

"The two wins this week were definitely good for our program," Walnofer said. "Our girls are improving, and it shows that they are making progress. Back-to-back victories are especially good for helping to boost the confidence level of our kids."

Alexis Cieslinski led the Lady Wildcat offensive effort with eight kills, and Brianna Hemphill added five. Jesse Edie registered 17 set assists for the Lady 'Cats while teammate Avery Brown contributed two service aces in the victory.

"I see us coming together as a team," Walnofer said. "I'm not a coach that singles out a player for praise, because everything we do and everything we accomplish is done as a team. So, I just see team improvement as our biggest accomplishment."

Cassville is slated to host Carl Junction on Thursday. Matches begin at 5 p.m.
