Southwest prepares for big tourney
Area teams prepare for Volleyfest
Southwest High School's 32nd annual Volleyfest tournament is set for Saturday.
Under the direction of Lady Trojans Coach Steve Voyak, the volleyball tournament has grown into one of the area's premier competitions.
In the last decade, the tournament has grown from a five-team, one gym event into a 10-team, two-state spectacular.
Slated to attend this year's event are five Arkansas teams and five local teams. They will be divided into two pools -- black and white.
Farmington (Ark.), Gentry (Ark.), Pea Ridge (Ark.), Verona and the host Lady Trojans make up the black pool.
Berryville (Ark.), Cassville, Crane, Huntsville (Ark.), and Wheaton comprise the red pool.
Games begin at 8:30 a.m. and will all be played in the high school gym.
At the end of pool play, the fifth-place teams will be eliminated. At 3 p.m., the No. 4 seeds and No. 3 seeds will play for seventh and fifth place. The semifinals are slated for 4 p.m. and championship and third place games are at 5 p.m.
A MVP and all-tournament team will be selected by the coaches.
