Cassville freshmen top Monett
Wildcats roll in 41-6 home win
Monett made the trip to Cassville on Monday to challenge the Wildcats in a freshmen football contest, and Cassville dominated both offensively and defensively en route to a 41-6 victory. The Wildcats scored early and often in the first half, finding the scoreboard in five of their six first-half possessions.
Shannon Haney accounted for two touchdown runs, Ethan Hoppes had a touchdown reception, and Evan Kessinger and Anthony Tolbert each had a touchdown in the first half. Andrew Berndt added the extra point kick to four of the scores, giving the Wildcats a 34-0 lead at the half.
Cassville took the opening drive of the second half and marched down the field with a punishing ground game. The drive was capped off by Tolbert's second score of the evening, putting the Wildcats ahead 41-0. Monett grabbed a fourth-quarter touchdown to get on the scoreboard, but otherwise never threatened the Wildcat defense.
The Cassville offensive line, consisting of Jacob Anderson, Jacob Beaulieu, Mason Hendrix, Jesus Perez, Jacob Statler, Colten Moore and Peyton Stringer, controlled the line of scrimmage and created huge running lanes for the backs.
In addition, tight ends Zack Burton and Austin Sanders did a nice job of blocking as well.
Coaches Jay Rogers and Robbie Artherton were pleased that everyone contributed to the team effort, made the necessary plays when needed and got a win against the rival Cubs.
