Senior Resource Fair scheduled
4th annual event provides information for local seniors
For the fourth year in a row, seniors in Barry County will have an opportunity to get information on everything from Hospice care to senior centers, as the Barry County Senior Resource Fair has been scheduled for Sept. 18.
The event, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Family Life Center in Cassville, is hosted by the Good Shepherd Hospice, based in Springfield.
"There will be about 35-40 vendors available to give seniors information on things like Hospice, in-home healthcare, seniors centers and the Veterans Administration," said Tiffina Spears, community liaison for Good Shepherd Hospice. "We will also have a special section just for veterans."
Other vendors include the Cassville YMCA, the Missouri Department of Social Services, the ARK development, independent living representatives, nursing homes an the Ozark Area Community Action Corporation's Barry County Neighborhood Center.
Gail Reed, supervisor of the Neighborhood Center, which hosted the event for its first two years, said the fair offers seniors opportunities not as readily available by phone.
"I've found a lot of seniors don't like to get information over the phone," she said. "But, they love to come to events like this and talk to people in person about resources."
The fair is geared to seniors 55-plus or those who deal with senior-related issues, like caregivers. Spears said she expects about 150 to 200 seniors to attend. Refreshments will be available.
