Wheaton schools finalize back to school events

The Wheaton school district has released its back to school schedule for students. Seniors may pick up their schedules and Chromebooks on Aug. 3, juniors may pick up their schedules and Chromebooks on Aug. 4, sophomores and freshmen may pick up their schedules and Chromebooks on Aug. 5, and junior high students (seventh and eighth grade) may pick up their schedules and Chromebooks on Aug. 6. Enrollment periods will be 8-11 a.m. and 1-3 p.m. Aug. 7, 1-3 p.m. Aug 10 and 1-3 p.m. Aug. 11. Open House for meeting teachers, finding classrooms and finding lockers will be Aug. 11 from 6-7 p.m. This will also be for elementary classes.

Cassville Middle School sets registration dates

New student registration for Cassville Middle School will be held Aug. 4-5. New students may come to the counselor's office to register from 9-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-2 p.m. both days. Current seventh- and eighth-grade students may pick up their schedules and locker assignments on Aug. 5-6 from 9-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-2:30 p.m. Sixth-grade students will be able to pick up their schedules and locker assignments on Aug. 10 from 4-5:30 p.m.

Central Crossing to offer art lessons

Beginning in August, Central Crossing Senior Center will be offering art lessons to area seniors interested in the various art media, including pastel painting, colored pencil and possibly others. The classes will begin on Monday at 9:30 a.m. and will be conducted on the first and third Mondays of each month thereafter. Fran Crosthwaite is a local artist and will be heading up the classes.

SONbeam Preschool hosting Open House

Cassville United Methodist Church's SONbeam Preschool will host an Open House on Aug. 10 from 6-7 p.m. The teacher is Megan Cox, and the assistant teacher is Gayle LeCompte. For enrollment in the 2015-2016 school year, people may call 417-847-4714. To enroll, the child must be at least three years old by Aug. 1.

Purdy church hosting revival beginning Friday

The Danny Ledbetter Family, from Wichita, Kan., will be leading a revival Friday to Sunday at the Macedonia Free Will Baptist Church, located at the intersection of Farm Roads 1100 and 2060 in Purdy. Friday and Saturday services will be at 7 p.m., and Sunday at 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. For more information, people may call 417-236-4390.

School supplies needed for School Readiness Fair

The Ozark Area Community Action Corporation Barry County Neighborhood Center is seeking donations for the School Readiness Fair, which will be held on Saturday at the Family Life Center. There are over 200 children signed up for the event this year, and school supplies and backpacks are needed for the students. Donations of school supplies or cash can be dropped off at the Neighborhood Center, located at 700 E. Hwy. 248 in Cassville. School supplies needed include: backpacks, spiral notebooks, loose-leaf paper (wide lined), pencils, pens, glue, crayons, markers, scissors, colored pencils, binders and folders (with brads). Tax sale set for Aug. 24

The Barry County Collector's Office, headed by Collector Janice Varner, is preparing for the annual Barry County Real Estate Delinquent Tax Sale. Missouri law requires land with three years of delinquent taxes be sold on the fourth Monday in August of each year, falling on Aug. 24 this year. The first publication about the sale was printed in the Cassville Democrat on July 22, and copies are available at the collector's office. The tax sale listing can also be viewed at, and will be updated when parcels are paid. Barry County Assessor Sherry Sears will have available for sale two booklets containing parcels that will be offered in the sale. The rural and city booklets will be $20, and the subdivision booklet will also be $20. People may also purchase both for $30. Those interested in purchasing a booklet may call Sears' office at 417-847-4589.

Community Foundation seeks grant applicants

The Cassville Community Foundation is accepting grant applications for the 2015 funding cycle. All not-for-profit, 501c(3) organizations that serve the Cassville community are encouraged to apply. Applications are available at the Cassville Area Chamber of Commerce and must be submitted by Sept. 1.

Exeter hosting kindergarten screenings

Exeter Elementary School will host kindergarten screenings on Monday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Parents should call the school's office at 417-835-2922, ext. 1, to set up an appointment. An appointment must be set for a child to be screened. Parents should also bring to the screening the child's birth certificate, immunization record, proof of residency (anything with a physical address, like a piece of mail) and a Social Security number. Children must be five years of age on or before July 31 to enter kindergarten. Children must be four years of age on or before July 31 to enter pre-school.
