Involuntary manslaughter charge filed following wreck
Warrant issued for Exeter man, cash-only bond set at $10,000
An Exeter man is facing a charge of manslaughter, involving a vehicle and intoxication, following a wreck on Highway CC on Saturday that killed a Butterfield woman.
A warrant was issued Thursday for Christopher Stogdill, 29, of Exeter, after Barry County Prosecutor Amy Boxx filed the charge of involuntary manslaughter, a class C felony. A cash-only bond has been set at $10,000.
The charge stems from a wreck Saturday at 2:35 a.m. Stogdill was allegedly driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala northbound on Highway CC when his vehicle ran off the roadway, overturned and ejected the passenger.
The passenger, Leanna Terry, 32, of Butterfield, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3 a.m. by Charles McManus, Barry County deputy coroner. She was transported to Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Stogdill suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield, where he was treated and released. Neither were wearing safety devices.
In accordance with state law, Stogdill was tested for alcohol. He was arrested at 3:22 a.m. on charges of felony vehicular homicide DWI, careless and imprudent driving and no seat belt.
This is Troop D's 58th fatal wreck of 2015. Troop D of the Missouri State Highway Patrol covers 18 southwest Missouri counties, including Barry County.
