Betty Jean (Assel) Duncan
Betty Jean (Assel) Duncan, 92, of Cassville, passed away Monday, July 20, 2015, in Mercy Hospital, Cassville.
She was born Oct. 14, 1922, near Ridgeway, in Harrison County, the daughter of Ollie V. and Ethel (Smith) Assel. On Sept. 6, 1947, she was united in marriage to J. Lowell Duncan, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death were her parents; four brothers; and one sister.
Survivors include: one son, John W. Duncan, of Fillmore; two daughters, Deborah "Deb" Fanning and her husband, Bill, of Cassville, and Dr. Nancy Jensen, of Richmond, Va., and Washington, D.C.; one brother; three sisters; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Hamilton High School. She then entered the Missouri Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, graduating in 1944. In 1945, she entered Lying Hospital in Chicago, Ill., extending her study in Obstetrics. She then returned to Missouri Methodist Hospital as a supervisor in obstetrics. She was a member of the Methodist Church.
A Celebration of Life was held Thursday in Savannah First Christian Church, Savannah. Burial was at Fillmore Cemetery, Fillmore.
Contributions may be made to the United Methodist Food Pantry in her memory.
There will also be a visitation from 2 to 7 p.m., Sunday, July 26, in the home of Bill and Deb Fanning, 22061 Coyote Ridge Road, Autumn Estates, Cassville.
