Butterfield woman dies in Hwy. CC wreck
A Butterfield woman died Saturday at 2:35 a.m. in a wreck on Highway CC, three miles north of Exeter, and the driver of the vehicle has been arrested for felony vehicular homicide driving while intoxicated.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol Report, Christopher Stogdill, 29, of Exeter, was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Impala northbound on Highway CC when his vehicle ran off the roadway, overturned and ejected the passenger.
The passenger, Leanna Terry, 32, of Butterfield, was pronounced dead at the scene at 3 a.m. by Charles McManus, Barry County deputy coroner. She was transported to Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Stogdill suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Cox South Hospital in Springfield. Neither were wearing safety devices.
In accordance with state law, Stogdill was tested for alcohol. He was arrested at 3:22 a.m. on three charges, including: felony vehicular homicide DWI, careless and imprudent driving and no seat belt.
This is Troop D's 58th fatal wreck of 2015. Troop D of the Missouri State Highway Patrol covers 18 southwest Missouri counties, including Barry County.
Stogdill was released by the Highway Patrol Saturday morning for medical attention at Cox South Hospital. Randy Berger, CoxHealth communications coordinator, said Stogdill was treated and released.
As of 3:30 p.m. Monday, he has not been booked into the Barry County jail, and no official charges have been filed by Barry County Prosecutor Amy Boxx.
