Thieves steal safe with $10,000, several boxes of cigarettes

Purdy Police are looking for tips from residents after the Country Corner Convenience Store in Purdy was recently burglarized.

According to a release from the Purdy Police Department, thieves broke into the store, located at the junction of Highway 37 and Highway C, in the early-morning hours on Sunday and stole a safe containing approximately $10,000 from the store's office, as well as several boxes of cigarettes. Police believe that the thieves are going to try to sell the cigarettes that were taken from the store.

Jackie Lowe, Purdy police chief, said the thieves used a concrete block, not a cinder block but more of a slab, to smash the front door, then crawled in through the broken glass.

"It was a block so big it took two people to move it," he said. "They dragged the safe out the back door, leaving drag marks."

The suspects are believed to be driving a white- or light-colored four-door car, and police also believe one of the suspects may have suffered an injury during the burglary.

If anyone has any information about this burglary, they may contact the Purdy Police Department at 417-442-7429 or Barry-Lawrence County Crime Stoppers at 1-888-635-8477.

Barry-Lawrence County Crime Stoppers pays cash rewards for information leading to the arrest and filing of charges on felony crimes, and callers will remain anonymous.
