Stones Prairie Picnic to be held Friday near Purdy
One of the highlights of the summer, the annual community picnic at St. John's Lutheran Church on Stones Prairie, northwest of Purdy, will be held Friday at the church beginning at 6 p.m.
The Lutheran Women's Missionary League has again prepared detailed, handcrafted quilts that will be given away in a drawing. The grand prize this year will be a queen-sized quilt, "Spring Eureka," pieced by Nancy Kielblock and hand quilted by the St. John's Quilters. Also prepared for the drawing are a baby quilt, made by Carolyn Schad, and an afghan made by Margaret Rupp.
The Lutheran Women's Missionary League will have other quilts, crafts and baked goods at its bazaar at the picnic.
The menu will include hamburgers, bratwurst, ice cream and homemade pies. Games, bingo and live music will be held on the church grounds. An exhibit of classic vehicles, Jeeps and farm equipment will take place behind the picnic area, across the street from the church.
St. John's Lutheran Church is located about three miles from Purdy, west of Highway 37 on Farm Road 2060, north on Farm Road 1057, then west on Farm Road 2057.
In case of rain, the picnic will take place on Saturday. For additional information, people may call 417-442-3836.
