Open house event slated in Eagle Rock
The Eagle Rock Community Association will host an open house Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
"We are hoping the event will show people what all the community center has to offer," said Jennifer Cochran, Eagle Rock Branch Library supervisor.
Pickleball, Legos, exercise classes and refreshments will be available, and guests will have the chance to enter to win a guided trip with local fisherman Jeff Fletcher. The library will also be open.
"The local clubs that are involved will also be there," Cochran said.
Cochran said there are many activities offered at the community center that many do not know about.
"We have Lego club, an exercise room for groups to do yoga or Pilates," she said. "We're trying to do zumba, if we can offer that. We have tapes and free weights to use. All you have to do is be a member of the Eagle Rock Community Association to use all the benefits of the community center. For $20 a year, members get a monthly newsletter, can take part in the exercise classes, events and can rent the facilities."
Once a member, Cochran said there is no charge to rent the community center, only a deposit is required.
"A lot think it's just a big building that has events once in a while and we want them to realize we do so much more," Cochran said. "We offer five scholarships for $500 each, four for Cassville schools and one for a home-schooled child. We're a Red Cross emergency shelter, we're a landing zone if a helicopter needs it, we do a fall harvest dinner, a Christmas program, monthly potlucks, a Halloween fest and a car show."
