300 volunteers ready for Week 1 at Camp Barnabas

Almost 300 volunteer (missionaries) at Camp Barnabas gathered Saturday to rally, train and prepare for the camp's first group of guests expected to arrive the next day. Near Purdy, Camp Barnabas, in its 22nd year of operation, sits on 123 acres, has 18 cabins, and hosts 120-180 children with disabilities each week throughout summer from local areas and several different states. Volunteer (missionaries) and staff at Camp Barnabus serve food to almost 300 fellow volunteers Saturday as the large group gathered to rally, train and prepare for the camp's first group of guests expected to arrive the next day. The volunteers are trained in areas such as daily living activities, wheelchairs, how to care for their guests and the unique culture of the camp. Julia Kilmer reporter@cassville-democrat.com
