Kim Kenney, right, a wood turning artist from Cassville, shows a small wood turning to Jillian LeCompte, middle, and Macie Walker, left. Kenney recently spent the afternoon with Kay McCullah's fourth-grade class at Cassville Intermediate School. Kenney is a Best of Missouri Hands Artist. The goal of the visiting artist program is to create an appreciation and awareness of art, artists and artisans of Missouri. Artists visiting with a local classroom helps meet the goal and spark the interest of learning something new. Kenney started taking lessons on the weekends in 2008 from Jerry Crowe. She started working full time in January 2012. Kenney brought many hands-on items for students to see how a tree burl is the starting point for creating wood bowls. Contributed photo
